STAFF PROFILE - TEACHER

GAVIN JACKSON

“I WORK FROM A RESEARCH-INFORMED, SCIENTIFIC MINDSET WHICH INFORMS THE ART OF TEACHING.”

I started teaching in 2014 and have taught in various countries including the UK, Spain, Russia, Kurdistan in Iraq and Egypt. My background includes teaching ESL, iGCSE, IB Diploma and A Level English. My own education includes a BA (Hons) English Literature from Liverpool John Moores and a PGCE Secondary English with Leeds Trinity University. At the moment I'm working to complete an MSc in Applied Linguistics at the University of Oxford, which reflects a key part of my teaching philosophy. I work from a research-informed, scientific mindset which informs the art or 'craft' of teaching: that aspect which takes students as individual, complex human beings.

About Mr Jackson

Outside of school a lot of my time goes into cycling or the study of languages. As a literature teacher I naturally have a shelf full of books I'm working through and normally have two or three on the go that I dip in and out of. Last summer I completed the first stages towards getting a UEFA coaching licence and hope to come back to that once the MSc is finished!
